Tech companies have been barred from using the Block Chain blogging platform, which offers an alternative to the popular social media platform Reddit.
The block comes in response to a complaint made by a group of individuals, known as the Blockchain Institute, who say they’ve been blocked from participating in Block Chain.
The group filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission on February 26, claiming the platform violates its Terms of Service, including its “unacceptable, discriminatory, and/or unlawful treatment of individuals with disabilities,” according to the SEC’s complaint.
According to the complaint, Block Chain’s Terms of Services explicitly prohibit the use of any “unfair or deceptive business practices” in connection with Block Chain and its associated services.
Block Chain has not yet responded to the claim.
On its website, Block Traded Network said that its terms of service prohibit the “unwelcome use of our platform for the purposes of advertising or promotional purposes,” including “advertising on any social media platforms.”
It also said it does not endorse the Block Trading Network and does not guarantee its safety or security.
The company also declined to comment further on its stance.
However, in a letter to the group, the SEC stated that Block Traced Network has “a history of engaging in abusive behavior” against individuals with special needs.
“As Block Tracked Network has a history of abusive behavior toward individuals with physical and/aspects of disabilities, BlockTraced Network’s policies prohibit the unauthorized use of the BlockTracked platform for that purpose,” the letter reads.
“These policies do not cover all of the activities that BlockTraded Network engages in with its platform.
However, the Company believes it is in compliance with the law and has a policy that is in accordance with applicable law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),” the letter continues.
The letter was sent by an SEC lawyer and did not mention Block Tramed, nor did it specifically refer to the Block.
BlockTraced is a private blockchain technology company that is headquartered in the United Kingdom.
The SEC has not responded to requests for comment from TIME.
